While your child is a patient at Children’s National Hospital, the hospitalist’s primary role is to look after your child. Our hospitalists work in consultation with your child’s pediatrician to supervise and coordinate all areas of your child’s care.

A Continuum of Care
A hospitalist is a board-certified pediatrician who specializes in the care of hospitalized infants, children and adolescents. Hospitalists serve as the attending doctors, working closely with medical, surgical and emergency medicine specialists, making sure inpatients receive well-coordinated, compassionate care.
Because hospitalists are able to continuously reevaluate your children's condition, they can quickly follow-up on any complications, ensuring timely testing, treatment and discharge.
A primary goal for the division, we strive to improve patient care systems within the hospital by developing and implementing pathways and leading initiatives to streamline the admission and discharge processes, as well as communicating back to referring physicians.
Excellence in Education
Children’s National has an educational mission to provide world-class education and training for our pediatric residents. Despite being one of the busiest clinical services at the hospital, hospitalists also have an important academic role in resident and student teaching, as well as in research. The division often receives the Golden Apple Award, an internal award from the residents to a group within the hospital in recognition for teaching excellence
Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship
Established in 2003, the overarching mission of the Pediatric Hospital Medicine Fellowship at Children’s National Hospital is to develop the next generation of academic leaders in the field of pediatric hospital medicine.
